Case #038: The 'dead' offer that made $3k on the next source
I tested a crypto offer on push traffic. $900 spent, $480 back. A clean 47% loss. I marked the offer dead in my notes, told two buyer friends to skip it, and moved on. Done.
Three weeks later one of those friends ignored me and ran the same offer on native traffic. He cleared 55% ROI and sent me a screenshot just to twist the knife.
My error was conflating the offer with the source. Push traffic is interruptive, low-intent, impulse-driven — wrong psychology for a crypto signup that demands consideration. The offer was fine. The traffic-source-to-offer fit was the failure, and I'd convicted the offer for a crime the channel committed.
The fix: I no longer kill an offer on one source. An offer earns a verdict only after it's been matched against at least two structurally different traffic types — interruptive vs. intent-driven, broad vs. targeted. One source failing tells me about the pairing, not the product.
I swallowed my pride and reran it on native and on a contextual search source. $1,400 spent, $2,180 back. 56% ROI, on the offer my own notes had buried.
— The lesson: an offer doesn't fail, a pairing fails — never sentence an offer to death on the testimony of a single traffic source.
