"Embed your G2 / Trustpilot badge for instant credibility." [MOSTLY MYTH]

"Embed your G2 / Trustpilot badge for instant credibility." [MOSTLY MYTH]

Third-party review badges spread because they outsource trust to a brand the visitor already knows. The instinct is right; the execution is usually backwards.

The mechanism: a static "4.8 stars" badge is a claim, not evidence — it's visually identical to a fake one, so skeptical buyers discount it. A specific first-party quote naming a real outcome carries more weight per pixel because it's falsifiable and concrete.

When the third-party badge earns its place: a category where the review platform itself is the buying ritual (software buyers genuinely cross-check G2). Recognition of the source does real work there.

The rule: known-platform buyers → link the badge to live reviews they can verify. Everyone else → lead with a concrete first-party result.

The nuance: an unclickable badge is decoration. If it doesn't link to the real profile, it's worth less than one honest sentence from a customer.
