Write a content brief or just start writing?
Q: Briefs feel like busywork. Can I skip them and just write?
A: Short answer: skip briefs for posts you know cold, write them for everything else.
Longer answer: a brief isn't bureaucracy — it's the 20 minutes where you settle the search intent, the target query, the subtopics competitors all cover, the angle you'll add that they don't, and the internal links you'll point in and out. Skip that and you discover halfway through that you misread intent and have to rebuild the whole piece. So if you genuinely know the subject and the SERP, write straight. If you're entering new territory or handing it to a writer, the brief saves more time than it costs.
The brief's real job is locking intent BEFORE you've sunk three hours into the wrong angle.
