My #1 ranking page converted at 0.2% and I couldn't figure out why

Month 7: 'best wireless earbuds' hit #1. 8,000 visits a month to that one page. I was thrilled — until I checked the revenue. $190/mo. A 0.2% conversion rate on prime commercial traffic. Something was deeply broken.

The turn came when I actually read my own page like a buyer instead of a writer. I'd written it for Google: 3,000 words of keyword-rich preamble before the recommendations. The buyer had to scroll past 1,200 words of 'what to consider when choosing earbuds' before reaching a single pick or a buy button. Most bounced before they got there.

I rebuilt it buyer-first: top three picks in a clean comparison table above the fold, with prices and buttons, in the first screen. The wall of SEO text moved below, for the few who wanted it and for Google's word count.

Same traffic, same ranking. Conversion went from 0.2% to 1.6%. Revenue from that one page: $190 to $1,500/mo.

The takeaway: ranking is the means, not the end. A page can win Google and still lose the buyer if the money decision is buried under SEO ballast. Put the answer — and the button — where the impatient buyer lands. Write the essay below it.
