Mistake: bragging about MRR you haven't kept
Everyone posts their recurring MRR screenshot. New MRR added is a vanity number. The only line that matters is net MRR after churn — and that one rarely makes the screenshot.
The self-deception:
— You add $2k of new recurring commission a month and feel like you're growing.
— Churn eats $1.6k of the existing base. Real growth: $400.
— You're sprinting to stand still and paying ad costs to do it.
Fix: track net MRR movement — new + reactivated − churned − contracted. If your churned line approaches your new line, you don't have a growth problem, you have a leak. Fix retention-side (content, audience fit) before buying more traffic.
Verdict: gross MRR is the number you post. Net MRR is the number that's actually in your bank.
