"Scroll animations make the page feel premium." [MOSTLY MYTH]

"Scroll animations make the page feel premium." [MOSTLY MYTH]

Fade-and-slide-on-scroll became default because libraries made it one line of code and it screenshots as "modern." It spread on portfolio sites, then leaked onto pages that have to convert.

The mechanism it breaks: reveal-on-scroll hides content until the user scrolls to it, which means your value proposition is invisible to anyone skimming fast — and skimmers are most of your traffic. You added a delay between intent and information to look polished.

Where subtle animation earns it: directing attention to one element at the moment of decision — a button that nudges when a form is valid. Motion as a pointer, not as decoration.

The rule: animate to guide a single action, never to gate reading.

The nuance the design crowd skips: "premium feel" and "converts" are different metrics. The luxury watch site optimizes the first. Your signup page shouldn't.
