The review theme that looks pro and fails Core Web Vitals
Deep-dive. Multipurpose 'review/affiliate' themes (the ThemeForest 'REHub'-style breed) ship every feature on: comparison builders, rating widgets, deal modules, mega-menus, three slider libraries. You enable 10% and load 100%. Result: 40+ render-blocking requests, a 300KB CSS file, LCP over 4s on mobile. For a review site competing on 'best X', that's a ranking and conversion tax on every page.
The fix:
— Audit with the Asset CleanUp / Perfmatters approach: dequeue the widgets you don't use per-template
— Kill the bundled slider/icon-font libraries you're not using
— Replace the theme's review-box shortcode with static HTML + minimal CSS if it's the LCP element
— Self-host fonts; theme fonts from Google are a CWV and GDPR liability
Gotcha nobody mentions: these themes inject their rating schema globally, so you get duplicate/conflicting Review markup fighting your dedicated schema plugin — pick ONE source of structured data.
Verdict on all-in-one review themes: 5/10. For: solo owners who want it working day one. Not for: anyone serious about mobile CWV or schema control.
Bottom line: a feature-stuffed theme is debt — disable hard or build a block theme around GeneratePress.
