Picking a tool: flat-tier pricing vs usage-based — read the trap
Not a tool, a tactic: how the pricing model decides your real bill.
Flat tiers (seats/plans)
👍 Predictable monthly cost; easy to budget and expense
👍 No surprise overages
👎 You pay for headroom you don't use, or hit a wall and jump a whole tier for one feature
👎 Per-seat models punish small teams that share logins
Usage-based (credits, tasks, events, API calls)
👍 Pay for what you use — cheap when you're small or spiky
👎 Costs are unpredictable and scale silently; one viral month wrecks the budget
👎 You self-throttle to save money, defeating the tool
Verdict: Flat tiers when your volume is steady and you hate surprises; usage-based when usage is low or seasonal.
Best for: Flat for established teams, usage-based for early-stage or seasonal operators.
