Failure mode: emailing the wrong person
Mistake: you scrape info@ or a generic webmaster address and wonder why reply rate is 1%. The editor who controls the page never sees it.
Fix contact-routing workflow:
— 1. Identify the page type: blog post → author/editor; resource page → site owner or content lead.
— 2. Find the byline; match it to a verified email (Hunter, page footer, LinkedIn).
— 3. Fallback order: named author > content manager > editor > generic inbox.
— 4. Log which tier you used per prospect for later reply-rate analysis.
— 5. QA gate: no generic-inbox send unless 3 named-contact attempts failed.
Automation: email-finder API at step 2, tier-logging in your tracker.
Definition of done: under 10% of any batch goes to a generic inbox.
