Failure mode: one link, one pitch, one site
Mistake: you find a dead resource and pitch the single site linking to it. Low leverage. That same dead URL may have 200 referring pages.
Fix scaling framework:
— 1. Take the confirmed-dead URL.
— 2. Run it through a backlink tool's "backlinks to URL" report to surface every page linking to it.
— 3. Dedupe by root domain; one pitch per domain, not per page.
— 4. Tier by domain quality; batch outreach in priority waves.
— 5. QA gate: confirm each domain still actively links the dead URL before sending.
Automation fits at step 2 (Ahrefs/Majestic API) and step 5 (re-crawl of referring pages).
Definition of done: every dead URL is exploited across all referring domains, not just one.
