You pitched a beginner tip to an expert publication
The same query can come from a hobby blog or a major business outlet. Beginners send identical answers to both and mismatch the audience.
Think of it like telling a kindergarten joke at a board meeting. Right joke, wrong room.
1. Note who's asking — the outlet name is usually in the query.
2. Glance at one recent article there to feel the level: casual? technical? data-heavy?
3. Match your example's complexity to theirs.
A reporter at a trade journal wants nuance their readers don't already know. A general-audience writer wants the plain-English version. Same expertise, different dial setting.
Try this today: Before your next reply, spend 60 seconds reading one piece from that outlet. Adjust one sentence to fit their reader.
