Myth: "This host charges for SSL because their certs are more secure."
Someone's still selling $50/yr SSL in 2026 and calling it premium. Follow the money — that's pure margin.
The reality of the comparison:
— Let's Encrypt: free, auto-renewing, the SAME 256-bit encryption browsers trust. Backed by Mozilla, Google, the EFF.
— Paid DV cert: identical encryption, a logo, and a renewal invoice.
— The only real upgrade is OV/EV (validated org identity) — and even that barely matters post-address-bar-changes.
A host that charges for basic HTTPS in 2026 is telling you exactly how they treat customers.
Reality: paid SSL on a host that could give you Let's Encrypt is a fee on your ignorance.
