The SLA badge does a lot of comforting work. Read what it actually pays out.
The comparison:
— The 99.9% "guarantee" excludes maintenance windows, network issues, and DDoS — and refunds you in account credit, not cash.
— Your own monitor (UptimeRobot free, 5-min checks) costs nothing and tells the truth in real time.
99.9% still allows 8.7 hours down per year. The SLA's job isn't to keep you up — it's to define how little they owe when you're not.
Who writes the rules of a guarantee? The party who pays it out.
Reality: monitor it yourself — the SLA measures their liability, not your uptime.
