Backing up to a second VPS instead of object storage is throwing money at fragility
A backup VPS needs patching, has a single disk, one IP to get banned, and costs more than the data it holds. Object storage (S3, B2, R2) is eleven-nines durable, versioned, and cheaper per terabyte.
— Backup VPS: another server to babysit and lose
— Object storage + versioning: durable, immutable, hands-off
Stop running a janky second server as your safety net. Object storage with object-lock beats it on every axis. Change my mind.
