Nightly mysqldump is a 24-hour data-loss guarantee, and you call that a backup
A logical dump at 3am means a crash at 2:59am wipes a full day of orders. For anything transactional that's negligence.
Binlog or WAL-based point-in-time recovery lets you restore to the exact second before disaster.

— PITR / binlog: replay to any moment, real protection
Dumps are fine for a blog. For a database that takes money, point-in-time or stop pretending you have backups. Change my mind.
