The brand the aggregator couldn't hear
It was a Wednesday when a skincare label noticed its agency dashboard showed flat chatter, while the community manager swore the brand was everywhere. Both were right. The aggregator pulled public web and X, but the conversation had migrated to a closed Reddit community and three Discord servers it couldn't see.
They added native, in-platform listening for those spaces. The result: 71% of the brand's real conversation lived where the aggregator had zero visibility. Sentiment there ran 22pts cooler than the public web, because that's where people complain honestly.
The tradeoff was labor. Native monitoring meant a human in each community, roughly five hours weekly, no tidy export.
The takeaway: aggregators show you the lit street; the real conversation often happens in the rooms with the doors closed. Decide which gaps you can afford to be blind to.
