Importing GSC into Bing Webmaster and then forgetting it
Bing's "Import from Google Search Console" is a great onboarding shortcut — and a quiet failure point. It imports your verification and sites once; it does not keep settings in sync. People import, assume parity, and never set up Bing's own IndexNow, sitemaps, or URL submissions.
What it does well:
— One-click site + verification import, saves the DNS dance
— Pulls historical data so the dashboard isn't empty
Where it falls short:
— No ongoing sync — new GSC properties don't appear in Bing
— Bing's crawler (bingbot) and quotas are separate; GSC tells you nothing about them
The fix: after import, treat Bing as its own platform. Submit the sitemap natively, enable IndexNow, and check Bing's URL Inspection separately — it surfaces issues (and a different crawl cadence) GSC never shows.
Best for: fast setup.
Not for: anyone who thinks importing once means ongoing coverage. Free, and worth the 20 minutes.
