Mistake: verifying with one tool and trusting the green checkmark
Single-pass verification (just NeverBounce or just ZeroBounce) still lets 3-5% of 'valid' addresses bounce on catch-all and role domains. Two campaigns of that and your sending domain is cooked.
The fix: two-stage. Run the list through one verifier, then route catch-alls through a second pass (MillionVerifier's catch-all check, or Bouncer's SMTP probe). Drop anything still uncertain. Keep per-campaign bounce under 2%.
Pros / Cons of two-stage verification:
— Pro: catch-all bounce rate drops from ~5% to under 1%
— Pro: protects warm-up investment you can't get back
— Con: doubles verification cost (still pennies per lead)
— Con: shrinks usable list — that's the point
Verdict: 4.5/5. The cheapest insurance in the stack.
Who it's for: anyone buying lists or scraping catch-all-heavy domains.
