LinkedIn newsletters vs. feed posts: notification vs. discovery

LinkedIn newsletters vs. feed posts: notification vs. discovery

The question: should a B2B thought leader pour effort into a LinkedIn newsletter or keep optimizing standalone feed posts?

They solve different problems. A newsletter triggers a notification and email to every subscriber on publish — guaranteed delivery to an owned list. Feed posts depend entirely on the algorithm's mood that hour. But newsletters bias toward long-form and publish on a cadence, which suppresses the spontaneous, conversational posts that actually drive comment velocity.

Three tradeoffs:
— Reach floor: newsletters have a guaranteed subscriber ping; feed posts can flatline to near-zero.
— Reach ceiling: a feed post can go far past your follower count; a newsletter mostly reaches subscribers.
— Effort and rhythm: newsletters reward consistency and depth; feed rewards frequency and reactivity.

Caveat: subscriber notification open-rates erode over time as people tune them out — the 'guaranteed' delivery decays.

For B2B: use feed posts to build the audience and test ideas, then convert proven themes into the newsletter as the owned, deliverable asset. Don't start a newsletter before you have an audience to notify.

Bottom line: feed for discovery, newsletter for delivery — sequence them, don't pick one.
