The funnel said where. The heatmap said why.
A checkout funnel for an online course leaked badly at the payment step: 44% of people who reached it left. The funnel report named the room. It couldn't tell us what was on fire inside it.
Funnels quantify drop-off between steps. They don't see the page. So we layered a session-recording and click-map tool on that one screen. The clue was a dead rage-click cluster on a coupon field that looked like a button.
The change: we turned the fake-button coupon field into a real collapsible link and clarified the total before submit.
Drop-off at payment fell from 44% to 29% in two weeks.
Funnels tell you which step bleeds. Heatmaps and recordings tell you which pixel. Run the funnel first to find the room, then the heatmap to find the leak. Wrong order wastes both.
