"Exit-intent popups beat inline forms." [DEPENDS]
The popup-vs-inline war is fake because they catch different people. The myth spread from list-builders who report popup capture rates without reporting what those leads are worth.
The mechanism: an exit-intent popup harvests low-intent visitors who were already leaving — high volume, low quality. An inline form mid-page captures someone who read enough to want more — lower volume, far higher downstream conversion.
When to use which: lead-gen funnel where you'll nurture for months? Popup volume is fine, you'll filter later. Selling a demo or a paid trial where sales time is expensive? Inline, because a popup lead that ghosts costs you a calendar slot.
The nuance the gurus skip: measure leads at the sale, not at capture. A popup that doubles signups and halves close rate did nothing.
