Lookalike audiences vs Interest audiences
Let's define both. An Interest audience is built from topics TikTok thinks people like. A Lookalike audience is built from your own list (buyers, site visitors) — TikTok finds new users who resemble them.
When to use each:
— Interest: your starting point when you have no customer list yet.
— Lookalike: stronger later, because it's based on people who actually acted, not just topic guesses.
The tradeoff: Lookalikes need a seed list of at least ~1,000 quality contacts to work well. Too small or messy a seed, and the match is weak.
Try this: check how many buyers or pixel events you've collected. If it's under 1,000, run Interest audiences now and build toward a Lookalike. You're not behind — every account starts list-less.
