The 2025 hype: let an autonomous agent figure out the steps. Sounds like the future. In production, agents are great at deciding WHICH path, and terrible at reliably EXECUTING the same path 10,000 times.

What builders we trust converged on: agent for the judgment call, deterministic workflow for the execution. The model picks the branch; plain old steps do the work. Nondeterminism where you need flexibility, never where you need a receipt.
