The error: people noindex pagination to fight 'thin pages,' but noindexed pages still pass crawl — until Google demotes crawling of noindexed URLs over time, starving the links on them.

Fix: keep pagination indexable OR add an indexable alternate path (sitemap, browse hubs, faceted links) to deep items. Cohort restored crawl reach and recovered ↑ 18% of long-tail indexed URLs.

So what: noindex the page if you must, but don't strand the links inside it.
