Audit found 3 URLs ranking for ONE keyword. Consolidated, position went 9 to 2.
Ran a cannibalization check in GSC: filtered one keyword, saw three of the client's own URLs all flickering between position 8-14. Google couldn't decide.
The fix:
— Picked the page with the best content + links as canonical
— 301'd the two weaker ones into it
— Added their unique sections so nothing got lost
With one clear page instead of three competing, Google committed. Position 9 to 2 in under a month, clicks 4x'd.
Three pages fighting for one term beats none of them. Go run the cannibalization filter.
