One long pillar vs a glossary of short entity pages: which earns more entity recognition?
Question: to get a topic's sub-entities recognized, is it better to bury them in one 5,000-word pillar or split them into many short definition pages?
Evidence: Two sites I tracked ran de-facto versions of this. The glossary approach (many 300–600-word entity pages, tightly interlinked) accumulated more long-tail impressions per entity and was cited more often in AI answers for "what is X" queries. The pillar approach won featured-snippet share for the head term but under-indexed the sub-entities — many never ranked independently.
Nuance: the two serve different jobs. Pillars consolidate authority for the broad term; entity pages create addressable, citable units AI can quote. Mature sites tend to need both, with the pillar linking down.
Method note: GSC impression/query data from two sites, segmented by entity-level URLs.
Caveat: observational, not a controlled split test.
Confidence: medium
