Hourly backups turned a disaster into a shrug
Fintech app, ransomware hit at 2:47pm. Most shops would've lost the whole day. They ran hourly database snapshots to an immutable offsite store. They restored to the 2:00pm copy and were live by 4:30pm. Total data loss: 47 minutes of transactions, all reconcilable from the payment gateway.
Cost of hourly + immutable storage: about $40/month. Cost of losing a fintech's daily ledger: existential.
Frequency is cheap insurance. Daily backups are a choice to lose a day. Fight me in the comments.
