A press release got 'reprinted' on 340 domains — and passed almost nothing
Multiple profiles show this mirage and a startup fell for it. The teardown is a useful warning.
What the footprint shows:
— one funding-announcement PR syndicated to ~340 referring domains in 48 hours
— DR looked great on paper; the count tripled overnight
— but every link was the same boilerplate anchor, on near-duplicate content, almost all nofollow or sponsored-tagged
The outcome: zero ranking movement on any target keyword. The 340 'links' were one piece of content photocopied across a syndication network Google compresses to near-nothing.
The tell any auditor can spot: sort by first-seen and read the anchors. When 340 domains appear in one day with identical anchor text and matching content snippets, that's distribution, not endorsement.
Link count is vanity; unique editorial context is sanity. Watch this space.
