340 incrementals chained to one full backup. The full was corrupt.
Clever setup: one monthly full, then nightly incrementals to save space. Ran beautifully for 11 months. When they needed a restore, the base full had silently corrupted — and every incremental depended on it. The whole chain was worthless. All 340 nights, gone.
They lost everything since the last verified full: 6 weeks of records.
Long incremental chains are dominoes. One bad base and the whole row falls. Take periodic fulls and TEST the base. Fight me.
