Most affiliate sites are blind to what actually happens after a click.
You track sessions, pageviews, bounce rate — but not the behavior that precedes a conversion. Which scroll depth triggered the click? Which traffic source arrived with purchase intent vs curiosity? Which landing page variant actually moved the needle?
Web analytics done right isn't about collecting data. It's about building a feedback loop between traffic behavior and offer performance.
Start by segmenting your analytics by traffic source AND landing page combination. A visitor from a Reddit thread behaves completely differently from one coming via a comparison keyword in organic search. Lumping them together makes your averages meaningless.
The operators running high-margin affiliate sites track micro-events: first scroll past the fold, hover on a CTA button, time spent on the pricing table. These signals tell you what's working before you see it in the conversion rate.
If you're not running event-based analytics alongside your standard metrics, you're optimizing based on a fraction of available signal.
