Auto-linking used the exact same anchor on every internal link to each target — 14,000 identical-anchor links. Cluster stalled at position 15. SOP:

— Step 1 (analyst): exported internal anchor distribution. Gate: >70% of inbound anchors identical = over-optimized.
— Step 2 (dev): built a rotation of 4 anchor variants per target (exact, partial, branded, generic), weighted 40/30/20/10.
— Step 3 (dev): regenerated internal links from the rotation. Gate: no single anchor exceeds 45% of a target's inbound links.
— Step 4 (analyst): tracked the cluster 8 weeks.

Outcome: target pages moved position 15 to 8 average. No anchor now exceeds 41% share.

Guardrail: automated linking needs an anchor distribution, not a constant.
