They told you: "Check our status page — all systems operational"
A customer's site was hard-down for 90 minutes. The host's status page stayed green the entire time. Why? The status page is manually updated by the same team that benefits from it looking calm, and it only flips after enough tickets force the issue. Third-party monitoring (UptimeRobot, 60s checks) logged the outage to the second; the official page logged nothing. The "99.98% uptime" on the marketing site is measured by the party grading its own homework.
Follow the money: a green status page sells more plans than an honest red one.
Reality: never trust an uptime number the host calculates about itself.
