Tried this on a high-intent how-to site. Had one unit above fold being cautious. Added a second compact 300x250 next to the intro, kept it clean, watched bounce closely for layout-shift damage.
— 1 → 2 above-fold units, no CLS spike
— Bounce moved +1.1%, nothing scary
— Above-fold RPM contribution +22%
Two above the fold works IF the page doesn't jump on load. Reserve the space. Test it on one page first.
