A network offered me an 'exclusive' — worth it?
Q: A reader was offered an exclusive rate on a dating offer if they committed all their volume to one network. Take it?
A: We checked what 'exclusive' actually bought. The public rate was $4.00; the exclusive bumped it to $5.20 — a 30% raise. The catch: they couldn't run the offer anywhere else, and the network had a softer cap.
We modeled it on their 30k monthly conversions. The raise was worth about +$36k/year. The cost was losing the ability to A/B another network's version of the same offer.
They negotiated a middle path: exclusivity for 90 days, with a performance review. Over that window the exclusive rate added $9k, and the cleaner relationship got them faster cap raises too.
Short version: exclusivity is fine if the rate bump is real and you cap the commitment in time. Never sign open-ended.
