How a "content refresh" KILLED a 14-month snippet

How a "content refresh" KILLED a 14-month snippet
10:30 UTC — Cautionary one, confirmed by the team it happened to. They held a paragraph snippet for 14 months. A routine refresh padded the answer paragraph from 41 words to 130 with "helpful context."
— Snippet dropped within one crawl cycle
— Lost to a competitor whose answer was still 44 words
— Estimated -1,800 clicks/month before they noticed
Why it matters: Reportedly Google wants 40-60 words it can lift whole. Bloat the answer past that and you become un-liftable — you hand the box to the leaner page. They reverted, snippet returned in 11 days. "Refresh" is not always upgrade. Watching this.
