An EdTech platform routing Mumbai students through Singapore
A live-class platform served 200k students across India. Its CDN had no Indian POP on the chosen plan, so Mumbai and Pune traffic terminated in Singapore — a 95ms baseline that ballooned to 180ms during evening study hours. Video manifests stuttered and quiz pages felt sticky.
The distance was structural, not load.
What we changed: moved to a provider tier with Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi POPs, and pushed the HLS manifests and quiz JSON to cache at the edge with a 10s TTL. Static lesson assets cached for a day. Anycast now landed Indian users on Indian metal.
Mumbai p50 latency dropped from 95ms to 11ms. Manifest fetch time fell from 140ms to 18ms, and rebuffering events per session dropped 64%. Support tickets about lag fell by half that month.
The number that mattered: 95ms to 11ms in Mumbai.
