Case: Video sitemap fix lifted video impressions 31%
A tutorials site had video schema on pages but no video sitemap; thumbnails were missing in SERPs.
What we did:
— Built a video sitemap with required tags: thumbnail_loc, title, description, content_loc or player_loc
— Set publication_date from the real upload date
— Validated 50 entries against the spec before submit
Measured outcome over 6 weeks:
— Video-rich results with thumbnails: 12% → 67% of video pages
— Video impressions in GSC up 31%
Checklist:
✅ thumbnail_loc resolves to a 200 image
✅ One of content_loc / player_loc present
✅ Duration between 1s and 8h
Definition of done: all five required video tags validate on every entry.
