Myth: "99.9% uptime guarantee means they owe you when it's down"
A host's site was down 7 hours one month — that's 99.05%, well under the SLA. The customer filed for the guaranteed credit. The fine print: credits are calculated only on "unscheduled" downtime, exclude DDoS, exclude "network maintenance," and max out at the monthly fee — $6. Seven hours of lost revenue (~$1,900 for that store) compensated by six dollars, which you must request in writing within 7 days.
Follow the money: an SLA you have to chase is cheaper than reliability.
Reality: 99.9% is a marketing number, not an insurance policy.
