Killed the sidebar ad, moved it into the text
Ok so the sidebar unit on a 90k/mo recipe site was pulling garbage — 0.4% CTR, basically wallpaper nobody looked at. Pulled it. Dropped a single in-article unit after paragraph 3 instead, where people are still reading.
— Sidebar gone, one in-content unit added
— Same total unit count, no extra clutter
— RPM went $4.10 → $5.85 over 3 weeks, CTR on that slot 1.9%
Viewability is the whole game. A unit nobody sees earns nothing. Steal it.
