A blogger had 90k idea pin views and zero clicks
A budgeting blogger showed me her stats with real pride: 90,000 monthly idea pin views. Then the hard part — her site traffic from Pinterest was basically zero. Idea pins back then carried no outbound link, so all that attention died on the platform.
We shifted strategy. She kept making idea pins as the 'top of funnel' hook, but for every one she also published a standard pin linking straight to the matching blog post — same topic, same visual language, posted two days later.
Over the next two months her outbound clicks climbed from under 50 to about 740 a month. The idea pins were warming up an audience; the standard pins finally gave them somewhere to go.
Takeaway: Views are not clicks. If a format doesn't carry a link, treat it as the trailer and always ship the standard, linkable pin that collects the traffic.
