How do I stop my monitor flapping when only one region sees a blip?
Q: My checks pass from Frankfurt but fail from Virginia for one cycle, and I get a down-then-up email two minutes later. How do others fix this?
A: A SaaS team I traded notes with had exactly this — 58 flap events in a month, almost all driven by one noisy US-East probe hitting a flaky transit route.
Their fix was a quorum rule: mark the site down only when 2 of 3 regions agree, checked within the same 60-second window. They didn't add probes or change interval. Result over the next 30 days: flaps fell from 58 to 4, and the 4 that remained were real regional outages where one CDN edge was genuinely serving errors.
The natural next question: did they miss anything? No real incident went unalerted — when a site is truly down, all regions fail together within a cycle, so quorum still catches it fast.
