Plural queries open snippet doors singular ones slam shut
12:30 UTC — We're hearing a reliable opening on 'best', 'top', and other plural/listicle queries: Google increasingly serves a list snippet naming options, pulled from a page that simply structures its picks as a clean ordered or bulleted list with the names front-loaded.
The counterintuitive bit: singular high-competition terms are locked up by AI Overviews, while the plural cousins still hand out classic list boxes to whoever formats cleanest.
Why it matters: pivot snippet targeting toward plural intent. A page that answers 'best X tools' with a tight named list is winning boxes the head term 'X tool' can no longer touch. Reformat for the plural. Watching this.
