Googlebot crawls your link graph, not your sitemap

Everyone treats the XML sitemap as the crawl roadmap. It's a backup. The primary way Google decides what to crawl and how often is your internal link structure — what's linked, from where, how deep.

A page buried five clicks from home with one internal link reads as unimportant, and gets crawled like it. A page in your main nav reads as central, and gets re-crawled constantly. Sitemap priority can't override that; link reality wins.

So your "important" page that won't index is often just orphaned or deep. The fix is links from pages Google already crawls a lot — not another sitemap resubmission.

The crawler follows links first, always.

Want it crawled? Link to it from somewhere that already is.
