"NVMe storage" on a box too oversold to feel it
They told you: "Lightning-fast NVMe SSDs!"
The disk is fast. The bottleneck isn't the disk. On a contended shared server, your I/O sits in a queue behind 300 neighbors, your CPU is throttled, and the database is the chokepoint — NVMe shaves microseconds off a process that's losing seconds elsewhere.
Fast storage on a starved server is a spoiler on a car with the handbrake on. The spec is real and the experience never changes.
Follow the money: NVMe is a cheap, true-sounding bullet point. It distracts from the metric that actually governs your site — how many accounts they crammed onto the host.
Reality: a storage spec tells you about one part; performance lives in the part they don't put on the page.
