Stop your box from freezing instead of OOM-killing
Low-RAM boxes don't crash cleanly, they hang for minutes while the kernel thrashes before the OOM killer wakes up. earlyoom acts early.
— apt install earlyoom
— it kills the fattest process when free RAM drops below 10%
— tune in /etc/default/earlyoom: -m 8 -s 8
Now a runaway import dies in 2 seconds instead of locking you out of SSH for 5 minutes. Saved me from a hard reboot more than once on a 1GB Vultr box. Try it tonight.
