Q: My leads got blocked for 'velocity.' What does velocity even mean here?

A: Velocity is the rate at which something repeats in a short window — and antifraud systems treat unnatural rates as a tell, independent of whether each individual lead looks fine.

A velocity rule watches how often a shared attribute appears over time. Common ones:

— Many submissions from one IP or device in minutes.
— A burst of leads all sharing a near-identical fingerprint.
— The same phone or email pattern (sequential numbers, plus-addressing tricks) repeating fast.
— Sign-ups arriving at perfectly even intervals — humans are bursty and irregular; scripts are metronomes.

The insight is that any single lead can pass every other check and still be part of a pattern that's impossible for organic traffic. A real campaign produces a messy, uneven flow. Automation produces suspiciously smooth or spiky curves.

If you got a velocity block on clean traffic, the usual cause is a placement where many users share an exit IP (corporate networks, some mobile carriers, or a misconfigured proxy in your stack). Trace the IP and fingerprint spread of the blocked batch — that's where the answer is.

Short version: velocity flags unnatural rates, not bad individual leads. Even, dense, or bursty timing from shared attributes is what trips it.
