Cross-posting X to Threads automatically: why it usually backfires
Tested three auto-mirror setups on a real account for 9 days.
The dream: write once on X, auto-mirror to Threads. The reality: the audiences reward different things. X-style posts (link-heavy, hashtag-stuffed, hot-take cadence) underperformed on Threads, which leans conversational and replies-driven.
Tools tested: Buffer/Publer can duplicate a post to both; IFTTT-style mirroring is crudest.
— Same-text mirroring posts fine, mechanically
— But engagement on the mirrored Threads copies ran noticeably lower
Cons: hashtags read as spammy on Threads, @-mentions don't map across networks, and reply threads don't survive the jump.
Annoying limit: no tool 'translates' tone between platforms; it copies bytes, not intent.
Verdict: duplicate-and-tweak, never blind-mirror. The tools work; the strategy is the trap. Auto-mirror: Wait.
