Descript for Shorts: text-editing video, worth it?
Descript lets you edit video by deleting words in a transcript. Tested it on Shorts specifically.
Pros:
— Delete filler words and 'ums' across a whole clip in seconds
— Studio Sound makes phone audio sound mic'd
— Overdub fixes a misspoken word without re-recording
Cons:
— Overkill for a 30-second Short
— Caption styling is weaker than CapCut/Submagic
— Renders feel heavy for short clips
Price: free tier (1 hr transcription/mo), Hobbyist $12/mo, Creator $24/mo.
Verdict: Descript earns its keep if you film long talking-head takes and carve Shorts out of them — the filler-word removal alone saves an hour. Skip it if you shoot tight 30-second clips; CapCut is faster and cheaper.
Not for: faceless creators with no talking footage — you'll use 10% of it.
