Negative SEO by links barely works anymore
The myth: a competitor can tank you by blasting 50,000 spam links at your domain.
Reality: Google built link-based negative SEO defense directly into the algorithm precisely because pointing spam at a rival is trivially cheap. If a $30 Fiverr blast could destroy any site, the SERPs would be rubble. They aren't.
Actually, the cases that look like link-based negative SEO usually fall apart on inspection — the site also had thin content, a hacked subfolder, or an existing manual action.
The fear sells two products at once: the attack service and the cleanup service. Convenient.
Reality check: if anyone could nuke anyone with cheap links, no big brand would still rank. They all do.
