"Vignette/interstitial ads are evil and kill traffic" — depends
Reddit consensus: "vignettes are cancer, turn them off." I almost did.
Truth: a vignette only fires on a page TRANSITION, not on entry, and Google caps frequency. On a multi-page-per-session site (recipes, galleries) it's a quiet high earner because people click through a lot.
On a one-and-done blog where sessions are single-page? Yeah, useless and annoying — turn it off.
It's not good or evil, it's session-depth dependent.
Check your pages-per-session before you judge it. Test it on one page first.
